Cecilia is a Mediator. No, not a medium, a Mediator. To put it simply, she can see/hear/touch the spirits of the dead, and it is her job to help them 'move on'. Where, Cecilia has no idea, and also, it's all done for free. There are perks, of course - such as learning all about times before (the stuff books don't tell you), getting to hang out with people who are dead (in Cecilia's case, a teenage Wahine Disaster victim, an elderly German woman (who cooks really well) and a boy she knew in life - until he wrapped his car around a tree), and, naturally, the feeling that comes with doing good deeds.
